Romeo Ordaz is an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) from Saudi Arabia.
He worked as an Industrial Engineer in Saudi Arabia and Ireland. However, destiny forced him to return to the Philippines last 2011 when he suffered a stroke.
He is going to surprise his family in the Philippines when he went home but it was he who got the surprise of his life.
Upon his return, Romeo didn’t expect that he will experience the turn of tides. He sees that their house is nowhere to be found. His family has gone missing as well.
The story of Romeo instantly became trending when a concerned citizen named Noelle Mae Regala initiated to help him find his family.
After years of working abroad, Romeo returned home to nothing. Without a home to go to and money that he worked hard for so many years.
“Ang sabi niya, umuwi siya noong 2011 at pag uwi niya, wala na yung family niya, yung house niya and all,” says Ms. Regala.
Romeo is currently living in a small space with some of his belongings.
“Ako si Engr. Romeo Ordaz, Industrial Engineer, dati akong OFW, way back 1977. Nag work ako sa Saudi Arabia,” says Romeo in the interview.
Romeo suffered a stroke last 2011 prompting him to return to the Philippines. He voluntarily returned to the Philippines.
“Ang dati kong inuuwian bago ako umalis ng Pilipinas ay sa Arman, Las Pinas,” he continues. “Nakiusap ako sa kanila, sa mga kapatid ko. Wala akong mauuwian, pwede bang dito na muna ako umuwi?”
At first, the siblings of Romeo agrees to shelter him. As his money drains, he says he was turned away leaving him homeless.
Upon interviewing one of his siblings, her sister reveals that they are not neglecting their brother Romeo. The little home he was living in is owned by one of his siblings who is in Dubai.
When asked about his wife and children, Romeo claims that he has none and he is living alone. But after a few minutes, Romeo suddenly changed his statement. Romeo said that while he was working in Saudi Arabia he met someone.
“Nung Nasa Saudi ako, dun ko nakilala yung napangasawa ko,” Shaking his head, Romeo admitted this after a while.
He and his wife separated. Then his family left the Philippines and went to Ireland.
In the midst of Romeo’s situation, he is expecting help from SSS. He is qualified for the OFW disability assistance program from SSS. He will also be evaluated for monthly SSS pension.
